CONFERENCE OUTLINE

Conference Programme

Sessions will cover key topics, emerging trends, customer journeys and what’s next. Delegates can customise their learning experience, joining for a few hours or the full day.

Panel sessions include:

  • Doing multi-cloud in the public sector: This conversation will bring together cloud leaders, who've take different approaches and will analyse - is Multi-cloud right for the public sector?
  • Procurement: Giving SMEs a shot, without the headache: How can we make government contracts more accessible to smaller vendors? How can we sift through suppliers more easily to find the companies we're interested in?
  • Improving customer experience by optimising your cloud technologies: With public spending under ever more scrutiny, we first need to look internally whether we are utilising our existing systems and technologies fully.
  • How cloud makes AI accessible? Although the use of AI is on the rise and the business opportunities are huge, many are not using it to it's full potential or even started on this journey. Is there a possible solution in AI as a Service (AIaaS)?

AGENDA:

10.05 - 10.50 - Doing multi-cloud in the public sector

Since 2013, the government has been actively encouraging public sector organisation to adopt a 'Cloud First' approach. While some jumped onboard, many are still at the early stages of their digital transformation journey. With the news of a 3-year AWS/government agreement, it's timely to discuss whether multi-cloud is the best approach for public sector organisations or whether putting all your eggs in the AWS basket could reap greater rewards. This conversation will bring together cloud leaders, who've take different approaches and will analyse - is Multi-cloud right for the public sector?

  • Moderator: Richard Simon, CTO, MultiCloud Global Consultancy
  • Victoria Whittaker, Manager, Deloitte
  • Mike Farrington, Head of Hybrid Cloud Services, Department for Work & Pensions

----------

11.00 - 11.25 - How cloud makes AI accessible?

Although the use of AI is on the rise and the business opportunities are huge, many are not using it to its full potential or even started on this journey. Many suggest that this is due to lack of skills or talent available to deliver this - something we've witnessed many times before. But there is a possible solution in AI as a Service (AIaaS). In this session, we'll be exploring the experiences of those who have implemented AI with and without AIaaS, the impact on their ability to scale pilots and the skills in-house needed to implement this.

  • Keith Dargie, Chief Digital Officer, Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service

----------

11.35 - 12.00 - Delivering a secure, enterprise-wide multi-cloud platform

- Overview of the challenges faced by large organisations adopting cloud and common issues experienced as a result of organic cloud adoption
- Target model for a centralised cloud infrastructure platform and service
- Key considerations and benefits of a centralised cloud platform and service

  • Neil Butler, CTO, NHS Test & Trace
  • Andy Astley, Cloud Architect, UK Central Government Department

----------

14.00 - 14.30 - Lessons and experiences from streamlining technology procurement

Technology procurement - perhaps not the favourite to-do on your job description, but nonetheless, an important one to get right! In this panel, we’ll look at the current approach to technology procurement and how we can make this a more efficient and effective process. Drawing on a variety of experience we’ll share:
- Innovative ideas to get the best out of the procurement process
- Keeping transparency and accountability for public spending, front and centre
- Opening this out to a wider pool of vendors and how we can be more flexible with requirements
- Lessons from recent experiences

  • Moderator: Richard Simon, CTO, MultiCloud Global Consultancy
  • Shaz Arian, Manager, Deloitte
  • Nick Martin, Consulting Director, iomart.

----------

14.40 - 15.25 - Improving customer experience by optimising your cloud technologies

With public spending under ever more scrutiny, we first need to look internally whether we are utilising our existing systems and technologies fully. Not only could this save money and streamline internal processes, it could also create a smoother and more reliable customer experience. In this next panel discussion, we will address:
- Optimisation vs transformation: Which is more appropriate?
- How can we leverage our current cloud technologies and tools to enhance the customer journey
- What newer technologies should we leverage with our existing cloud tech to improve customer experience
- What areas of customer service we should improve and how did we come to that decision?

  • Moderator: Victoria Whittaker, Manager, Deloitte
  • Kubilay Tsil Kara, Enterprise Data Architect, Channel 4 Television
  • Lauren, Beech, Head of Digital of Transformation, Accord Housing Association
  • Keith Dargie, Chief Digital Officer, Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service
