
Ian McDonald has been a leader in IT for over 15 years working in a range of multinational companies such as BHP, DHL, Sitel, Ecolab and Symbian. Ian has extensive experience ranging from national/global responsibility for IT, leading software development teams and being General Manager at New Zealand's largest outsourcing firm.
Ian is now Head of Infrastructure and Cloud for News International which is the UK's largest newspaper publisher. News International have moved to Google, Salesforce, Amazon and are shifting their on premises equipment to a private cloud infrastructure.
Ian was previously global Head of IT for Symbian Foundation. Symbian Foundation run nearly all their IT infrastructure on cloud based servers and services. While at Symbian he completed a move of all their web properties to Amazon Web Services from a traditional virtualised environment and also ran other cloud services such as Google, Salesforce and a wide range of SaaS offerings.
Ian has a first class honours degree and is currently studying towards a doctorate in network congestion and has published papers with the IEEE, has been involved with IETF working groups. He also has been a contributor to the Linux kernel and a number of other open source projects.
Outside work Ian is a keen motorsports enthusiast and enjoys travelling.
